On this Remembrance Day, we join communities across the country in remembering all those who gave their lives in service to our nation. Each year on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, we pause to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of the Armed Forces, past and present, who have defended our freedoms and helped shape a more peaceful world.
Here in Dunchurch, our village came together on Sunday 9th November for a moving outdoor Remembrance Service led by our new Vicar, Rev. Ian Sweeney. His thought-provoking words encouraged all present to reflect not only on the losses of war, but also on the importance of working together for peace in the future.
The long list of names of Dunchurch’s fallen, read aloud during the service, was a powerful reminder of the deep impact of conflict on our own community. It was heartening to see so many people—young and old alike—come together to pay their respects and to remember those who served.
Dunchurch Parish Council was proud to lay a wreath alongside FODS, St Peter’s Church, and many other local groups and individuals. Their collective tribute showed the strength of our village’s community spirit and shared gratitude.
We are deeply thankful to everyone who helped organise and take part in Sunday’s service, ensuring it was such a meaningful and respectful occasion.
As we mark Remembrance Day today, Tuesday 11th November, we hold in our hearts all those who gave their lives, those who returned home changed by their experiences, and all who continue to serve in the cause of peace.
We will remember them.
