On Tuesday 14th October 2025, the communities of Dunchurch and Thurlaston came together to warmly welcome Reverend Ian Sweeney, who has been appointed as the new vicar for both parishes.

The Bishop of Coventry, The Right Reverend Sophie Jelley, led a beautiful induction ceremony at St Peter’s Church, supported by clergy and members of the congregation. The service was filled with joy, fellowship, and a strong sense of community as Reverend Sweeney was formally welcomed into his new ministry.

Ian was joined by his wife and family, who will be living among us here in Dunchurch, and the Parish Council is delighted to welcome them as part of our local community.

During the service, Ian Grogan, Acting Chair of Dunchurch Parish Council, delivered a short address on behalf of the Council and the wider community, extending warm wishes to Reverend Sweeney as he begins his new role. Sue Protheroe also offered words of welcome on behalf of FODS (Friends of Dunchurch Society) and other community groups, reflecting the shared excitement and goodwill felt across both villages.

It was a truly special occasion – one that celebrated both tradition and new beginnings. We look forward to working with Reverend Ian Sweeney as he becomes part of the life and spirit of Dunchurch and Thurlaston.

Welcome, Reverend Ian
