Young driver banned after public submit footage of his driving to Op Snap

A young driver from Daventry has been disqualified from driving for 28 days and fined £346 after a member of the public submitted dashcam footage of his careless driving to Warwickshire Police Op Snap.

Published: 12 December 2024

The footage showed him driving without due care and attention, and failing to comply with solid white line road markings and traffic signs as he overtook other vehicles on the A425 near Southam on 15 February 2024.

At Leamington Magistrates Court on 3 December, 24-year-old Christopher GUNTER from Preston Drive, Daventry was also ordered to pay £110 costs and £138 victim surcharge.

Speaking after the sentence, Police led Prosecutor Hannah Smith said “This young driver was seen to overtake on a number of occasions which included overtaking on double white lines and also onto the wrong side of a mandatory keep left sign.  This is totally unacceptable.

“We hope this ban together with fines and costs will be enough to remind him of his responsibilities to other road users and himself to always drive safely and legally.”

This case shows how effective Operation Snap can be and we are encouraging all road users to report and submit digital footage showing potential moving traffic offences to us to help improve road safety for the public.

This can range from driving dangerously or carelessly to overtaking on solid white lines, using a mobile phone while driving, ignoring traffic lights or dangerous driving around other road users, such as horse riders and cyclists.

The evidence will be reviewed by a police officer who will keep you informed if the case will be progressed or not.

We also use footage submitted to us via Op Snap to help educate other road users and to advise on case results.
